Every Tuesday from 6pm - 8pm, Glasgow Autonomous Space hosts the Unity Arabic/English language exchange. The Unity Centre (http://unitycentreglasgow.org/) started the exchange because many people from many different Arabic speaking countries wanted to practise their English, and many other people wanted to learn Arabic! In recent years, cuts have been made to English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses and people wait months on waiting lists. There is a very high demand for English classes. Every Tuesday the class comes together at Glasgow Autonomous Space to create a supportive and welcoming environment. Everyone is different levels and people learn what they want, however they like. Everyone is learning together! The class is run collectively and everyone is the teacher. Many attendees are in the asylum system or struggle to cover transport costs. It is important that the classes remain accessible to all by offering travel money. Donations are very welcome - https://www.youcaring.com/people-who-couldn-t-attend-otherwise-601139. Donations of materials such as pens and paper are also very useful. For more information contact [email protected]. Come on down and join in! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You could also: Like us on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/unitylanguageexchange/ And share our flyer below! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ** We urgently need more English speakers!

There is a small outdoor area round the side of GAS. It was fairly stinking but with one day's work we have transformed it. There's still lots to do! So if you're interested in getting involved please email [email protected] with the subject 'GARDEN'. On Saturday 6th August we had our first zine copying day. Many thanks to all that came down with their offerings, we copied almost 100 zines to add to the collection!! If you have materials that can be copied into the library, or suggestions for other sources then please don't hesitate to get in touch - email [email protected] with the subject 'INFOSHOP'. We're particularly keen on gathering items in many languages. Children's books and graphic novels are also very welcome. Stay tuned for more infoshop work days. The library will be opening soon :-) :-) :-) |
