GAS is in an industrial warehouse which unfortunately was not designed with accessibility in mind! However the GAS crew have attempted to make it as accessible as possible, but rather than say if it is 'accessible' or 'not accessible' we have put together a video that takes you on a tour of the space and demonstrates how to gain access via stair free routes. It also shows other elements of the space such as
- Explaining how to let yourself into GAS (this is unfortunately currently not possible for people who need stair free access)
- The internal stairs that lead to the kitchen and meeting room
- The handrails and space available in the toilets
- The general feel of the space
Please do get in touch with us over email or facebook if you would like to view the accessibility video or speak to someone in more detail.
We hope that this information will help you in weighing up whether the space would work for you or your group. We are also aware that there are many facets to accessibility and ways to support people to feel welcome in the space. We will do our best to cater to whatever would work best for you or your event so please do get in touch and explore options with us.
We really value feedback so please do get in touch.
One group, who are led by disabled people, gave us the following perspective on the accessibility of the space
"In terms of accessibility we were impressed by the space, rails in the toilet and ramp that means a disabled person could access and participate. however as we have disabled organisers, and the main shutter cannot open from the outside, It isn't possible for us to host our sessions in the space. Thankyou for the lovely food, wishing GAS all the best."
Gas was established in 2016 when we took on the lease of a large warehouse building in Tradeston, Glasgow.
It was a daunting prospect! A huge, cold and cavernous space. Over the last few years, with the help of hundreds of different people, we have converted into the space it is today- an ever changing, ever growing, social centre full of established groups and endless opportunities for new and exciting things! So far we have built a library, herbal clinic dispensary, kitchen, wood workshop, meeting space, toilets, a garden with a greenhouse and a shed!
In the proverbial pipeline are the downstairs kitchen area, a printworkshop and continuing sprucing up of everything. The work is always fun and never done! Join us! :)
Anyone can book GAS by checking to see when the calendar is free, and dropping us and email to say when you would like it and what for. GAS was built for groups fighting oppression, and prioritises the groups that don't have access to other spaces. It also hosts events that are in solidarity with its 'vision' like DIY gigs, lectures, film screenings, fundraisers, creative stuff and even fitness classes!
If you are interested in using GAS, don't be shy- give it a try!
